Heritage of Hudson Activity Assistant Awarded Brian Colleran Caregiver of the Month

Emily playing music for residents at Heritage of Hudson

Great caregiving that delivers resident satisfaction and excellent clinical outcomes are at the core of the success of Foundations Health Solutions. This commitment to excellence is attributed to the vision of Foundations Health founder, Brian Colleran. Each month, Brian reviews the best of the best caregivers across the state of Ohio to recognize the Brian Colleran Caregiver of the Month. In Colleran's vision, this is the person that goes above and beyond to provide smiling faces and healthy outcomes. This month's winner is Emily Cambell, an activity assistant at Heritage of Hudson Health and Rehabilitation in Hudson, Ohio.
Earlier this month, administrator Michael Thomas was making his facility rounds, he heard something on the memory care unit at Heritage of Hudson. As he walked down the hall, he began to hear music coming from a resident's room. When he approached the door, he was thrilled to see activity assistant, Emily Cambell, personally playing her keyboard for one of our residents. This particular resident is on hospice services, and Emily was comforting her with soft piano music. This type of special attention that Emily gives our residents is a true embodiment of our "Culture of Care."
Emily has brought her musical influence to all the residents at Heritage of Hudson. Emily studied music therapy in college and she enjoys incorporating music into many of the activities that she hosts in the facility. Emily has done sing-a-longs with the residents and saw such great participation that she formed a resident choir called the "Heritage Singers." Each week Emily gets together about 12 to 20 residents and they practice singing songs, while Emily plays the piano. Like the conductor of an orchestra, Emily sings with the residents and has them making melodies together. A few weeks ago the "Heritage Singers" had their first concert! Residents, families, and friends were in attendance and the event was a huge hit. The residents love the choir, and when they see Emily, they get excited and ask, "Are we singing today?" It has given many of the residents something special to look forward to each week. Look for the Heritage Singers in December for their holiday concert.
Emily's musical reach does not just stop at the piano, which she has played for over 20 years. Emily also plays the guitar and bassoon. Emily and her musician friends are part of the "All Thumbs Bassoon Ensemble" which performed for the residents at Heritage of Hudson on September 21st. Emily is also a member of the Akron Pops Orchestra and there are plans to take the residents to their next performance in Akron.
Emily has been a great addition to the activity team at Heritage of Hudson. She has been with us for almost a year, and the residents and families just absolutely love her.
Here's what one family member said about Emily:
When we asked Emily what she likes most about her musical influence in the activity programming, she said she enjoys creating a "sense of community." Regardless of how capable or independent any resident is, they can be together through music. Emily has created a community that shares a common love for music. This has brought them together as one and has been truly special to watch. This shows how wonderful Emily truly is, and she is the perfect example of our "Culture of Care."
Thank you for all you do, Emily!
